HISTORY

  European traders started capturing the Indian Subcontinent by the 17th century and through overwhelming military strength , the East India Company took over local kingdoms and established themselves as the dominant force by the 18th century. The British crown assume direct control of India through the Government of India Act 1858. Many civic society emerged in India in the following decades. The Indian National congress party was formed in 1885. The period after world War I was marked by colonial reforms such as the Montage-chelmsford Reforms,but it also witnessed the enactment of Rowlatt Act and calls for self-rule by Indian activists. This led to nationwide non- violence in the form of civil disobedience movement,Non-cooperation movement led by Mahatma Gandhi (Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi). IMPORTANCE

  1. The independence day is celebrated on August 15 every year to remember india's freedom from the British rule in 1947. 2. The prime Minister customarily raises the flag and give address to the nation. 3. On 15th of August 1947,the first prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru raised the Indian national flag above the Lahori gate of the Red fort in Delhi. 4.
